Glossary of Peruvian entertainment
What ampay, reality star, marriage notice, streamer and other recurring terms in Peruvian entertainment mean, with real examples.
If you follow Peruvian entertainment, some terms appear repeatedly without much explanation. This glossary defines them briefly and gives real examples from biographies on Famosix.
Expanded as new terms appear in the biographies we publish.
Ampay
A Peruvian colloquial term for a recording or photograph, usually obtained without the subject’s knowledge, that exposes infidelity or a compromising situation. Magaly Medina’s show Magaly TV, la Firme popularized it. In Peru’s entertainment press it is now used broadly for a scandal caught on camera.
Chico or chica reality
A public figure who becomes known through a competition reality show such as Esto es Guerra or Combate, rather than through a prior artistic or sporting career. Some later move into presenting, music or business. Famosix examples include Angie Arizaga and Said Palao.
Competition reality show
A television format in which a regular group of contestants compete in physical and skill-based challenges over multiple seasons. Production also follows their relationships, breakups and conflicts. Esto es Guerra and Combate are longstanding Peruvian examples.
Streamer
Someone who broadcasts live online, usually on platforms such as Kick, Twitch or YouTube Live. Streams may feature games, conversation, reactions or challenges. In recent years, several Peruvian streamers moved from TikTok to Kick in search of better financial terms. Famosix examples include Zully and Nando.
Entertainment magazine show
A daily television program focused on entertainment news: interviews, commentary on the industry and often coverage of other public figures’ private lives. Préndete, Amor y Fuego and Magaly TV, la Firme are examples on Peruvian television.
Marriage notice (edicto matrimonial)
A public notice required under Peruvian law before a civil marriage, allowing objections based on legal impediments. In entertainment coverage, the notice may circulate before a couple confirms the wedding, as happened with Karla Tarazona and Christian Domínguez in May 2026.
Influencer
A social media creator on Instagram, TikTok or YouTube whose audience gives them influence over followers’ purchases, opinions or trends. In Peru, the term applies both to people who began online and to reality-show figures or presenters who later moved into digital media.
Presenter (conductor or conductora)
The host of a television or radio program. In Peruvian entertainment, magazine-show presenters have often previously worked in reality television, modeling or comedy. Johanna San Miguel is one example.
Vedette
A historical term in Peruvian entertainment for a female revue or variety-theatre performer, associated with generations before reality shows and social media.
