Beginnings and early years: from Pozuzo to Lima
Ducelia grew up in Pozuzo, a one-of-a-kind enclave: a colony founded by Austro-German immigrants in the middle of Peru's high jungle, at more than 2,000 metres above sea level. She spent her entire childhood and part of her adolescence there, surrounded by nature, farm animals and a culture that blends Central European traditions with the rhythm of provincial Peru.
She went to primary school near her home in Santa Rosa and then did secondary school at another institution in the area. At 17, her father made a decision that would change her life forever: he sent her to Lima so she could go to university. With no contacts, no support network and in a city completely foreign to her, Ducelia enrolled in Hotel Management at Universidad San Martín de Porres, where she juggled her studies with modelling jobs and, for a while, work at a dermatology clinic.

Professional career: from modelling to the small screen
The big leap came in 2014, when Ducelia entered Miss Perú Universo representing the Pasco region. As she told it herself, she did it to clear her head after a breakup. The result exceeded all expectations: she made the contest's top 12 finalists, alongside figures who would also become very well known, such as Brunella Horna. She also won the title of Miss Fitness.
Taking part in Miss Perú was, without her knowing it, the springboard to television. After the contest she worked as a personal trainer, which opened the doors of showbiz for her. She first joined Combate (ATV), where she had a bittersweet experience: although she showed her physical and competitive ability, she also suffered bullying from her castmates because of her deep voice, a consequence —which she would reveal years later— of using anabolic steroids while preparing for Miss Perú.
Later she moved to Esto es Guerra (América TV), where she found a more favourable environment. Producer Peter Fajardo backed her publicly and told her: “Du, your voice is beautiful, let's make a show and make the most of your voice”. That support made a huge difference to her confidence and her television prospects.
Notable shows and work

- Esto es Guerra (América TV) — Competition reality show. Her most emblematic programme.
- Préndete (Panamericana TV) — Entertainment host.
- Todo se filtra (Panamericana TV) — Showbiz host.
- El valor de la verdad (Panamericana TV) — Guest in May 2025, one of the most watched episodes of the year.
- Miss Perú Universo 2014 — Top 12 finalists + Miss Fitness title.
Personal life: the truth few people know
Ducelia Echevarría's personal life is marked by a story of resilience that she herself has revealed cautiously over the years. In 2016, shortly after Miss Perú, she became pregnant. She was alone in Lima, without the support of her baby's father, and decided not to tell her parents in Pozuzo so as not to worry them. “So as not to give my parents problems, I got through it on my own; I was working at a dermatology clinic”, she confessed in an interview.
Her daughter was born in 2016 and is called Claire Anelisse. Ducelia has raised her practically alone, with very little —almost no— financial involvement from the father. During her appearance on El valor de la verdad (May 2025), she revealed that Claire's father ended up giving her just S/ 20 in child support, a figure that caused massive outrage on social media.
The name of her daughter's father is Víctor Hugo Lurquín Daza, a personal trainer who was also reported in 2017 for the rape of Alessandra Bonelli, a former Miss Perú contestant. On the same show, Ducelia broke down in tears as she confessed that this man drugged her as a mechanism of control and domination during the relationship, and that it was he who pressured her into a steroid treatment while she prepared for the beauty contest, which affected her voice irreversibly. According to ATV, Lurquín was sentenced to 10 years in prison, although reports indicate he remains free.
In 2024, her name returned to the headlines when the show Magaly TV, La Firme showed her in a paparazzi scoop kissing businessman George Jaico, who was still living with his wife and son. Ducelia publicly stated that she did not know Jaico's relationship status, and broke down on camera as she apologized to his wife.
Ducelia Echevarría trivia
- Austro-German colony: Pozuzo, her birthplace, was founded in 1857 by Tyrolean and Rhenish settlers. It is one of the most remote European settlements in the world, set deep in the Peruvian jungle.
- The voice that marked her: Her deep tone of voice —so widely commented on online— is a direct consequence of the anabolic steroids she was given while preparing for Miss Perú 2014. It took her years to talk about it openly.
- Highland businesswoman: She has her own craft beer brand called Duchela, produced in Pozuzo. She also opened the boutique restaurant D’Tinto & Burgers in Lima.
- The return to her roots: At 32 she decided to leave Lima and go back to Pozuzo to live with her father, look after farm animals and take up country life again. “I'm a millionaire and happy with my people”, she wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of herself cleaning a pen.
- A family accident: In August 2025, she and her daughter Claire were in a car accident when a reckless driver rammed their truck. Fortunately, both came out unharmed.
- A Miss Universe candidacy: Many fans are still convinced that Ducelia had the physique and the attitude to represent Peru at Miss Universe. Her elimination in the top 12 is still a topic of debate online.
Ducelia Echevarría in 2026
2026 finds Ducelia far from the Lima studios and very close to her essence: in Pozuzo, next to her father, among calves, horses and the green hills that watched her grow up. After years of intense media exposure —reality shows, paparazzi scoops, hosting jobs and the red chair of Beto Ortiz— she chose a quieter life, which she documents on her social media with complete naturalness.
She is still active as an influencer and content creator, drives her craft beer brand Duchela and does live streams with other creators. At Famosix we think her decision to leave the noise of Lima to reconnect with her roots says a lot about her character: Ducelia was always more authentic than the character television built around her.
Conclusion
Ducelia Echevarría's story is that of a woman who left a hamlet in the Peruvian jungle with one suitcase and plenty of drive, survived a violent relationship, raised her daughter alone and built a media career that still gets people talking. Today, back in Pozuzo, her story keeps being written —far from the studios, but closer than ever to who she really is.
