Edison Flores's Biography: el Orejas and his return to Universitario

There is a nickname that sums up the career of Edison Flores: "Orejas". A player who came out of the youth divisions of Universitario, went to a World Cup with Peru in Russia 2018 and ended up playing in the MLS before returning to the "U", the club that developed him. In 2026, at 32, he is still an attacking reference point for the cream-coloured side and for the Peruvian national team, although his current football is going through a spell with less goalscoring prominence. Here we review his full story, from Ate to the Monumental.

Who is Edison Flores?

Edison Flores is a Peruvian footballer, born on May 14, 1994 in Lima. He plays as a forward or left winger and he plays for Universitario de Deportes since his return to the club. He has been an international with the Peruvian national team since 2013 and he was part of the historic squad that qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia after 36 years of absence.

Edison Flores's childhood and early years

Edison Flores was born and grew up in Lima, where from childhood he showed the qualities for football that took him to the youth divisions of Universitario de Deportes. His left foot and his ability to beat defenders quickly set him apart inside the cream-coloured academy, a club that in its history has produced several of the attacking reference points of Peruvian football.

His leap to youth fame came in 2011, when at just 17 he was a key piece of the Universitario team that was crowned champion of the Copa Libertadores Sub-20, an achievement that put him on the radar of the national sports press. From that moment, "Orejas" —a nickname that has been with him since adolescence— began to be considered one of the most solid prospects of his generation, the same one that years later would accompany Peru back to a World Cup.

Suggested internal link: his generation coincided with that of footballers such as Aldo Corzo, also developed in the youth divisions of Peruvian football.

Edison Flores's professional career

Flores made his professional debut with Universitario and quickly became an undisputed starter, which opened the doors of the international market to him. In 2018 he made the leap to Mexico to play for Morelia, a club with which he played 47 matches and scored 12 goals between 2018 and 2020, establishing himself as a weighty attacking piece in Liga MX.

In January 2020 his signing by DC United of the MLS was completed, for a figure that at the time was a record for the American club (close to 5 million dollars). In Washington he played 41 matches, 33 of them as a starter, although with lower goalscoring output than expected: just three goals in three seasons. After his time in the United States, he spent a spell at Atlas of Mexico before returning to Universitario, the club with which he has lifted Liga 1 titles again.

Milestones of his career:

• 2011: Champion of the Copa Libertadores Sub-20 with Universitario, chosen best player of the tournament.
• 2018: He makes his World Cup debut with Peru at Russia 2018.
• 2020: Record signing by DC United (MLS) after his spell at Morelia.
• 2025: He scores a key goal for Peru in qualifying on the road to the 2026 World Cup, ending a drought of three years without scoring in official matches with the national team.

Suggested internal link: like Christian Cueva, Flores is part of the generation that took Peru to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Edison Flores's personal life

Edison Flores married the model and presenter Ana Siucho on December 21, 2019, in a high-profile wedding held in Lima. The couple had two daughters, Alba and Aurelia —the latter born in the United States in September 2023, during his time at DC United—.

At the end of 2024 and during 2025, various Peruvian outlets reported a separation between the two after close to five years of marriage. The footballer himself publicly acknowledged that they were going through a difficult moment as a couple, although he stressed that the priority for both is the shared upbringing of their daughters. At Famosix we follow this kind of news closely because it reflects how national team footballers also face their private life under the public gaze.
